Travis County Judge Jan Soifer has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against the state’s capital city Austin over its 2022 voter-approved ordinance decriminalizing cannabis possession. The judge stated that the ordinance wasn’t causing any harm to the residents and didn’t violate state law. Several cities in Texas approved decriminalizing cannabis including Austin, where in May 2022 voters agreed to allow the possession of four ounces or less of cannabis. Canadian cannabis chain High Tide Inc. (Nasdaq: HITI) (TSXV: HITI) has obtained a $15 million loan to repay existing debts and support its expansion plans, the company announced Thursday morning. The loan will be provided in two parts: $10 million now and $5 million in November 2024. High Tide also has the option to borrow an additional $10 million if needed. The company said in a news release that it believes it can take on more debt to help fund the opening of new Canna Cabana stores across Canada. While it’s often believed that letting cannabis stores open in a neighborhood will drive down property values, a new report from real estate company Tomo says not so fast. Instead, Tomo found that, on average, if a dispensary opens in your area, you’re likely to see an additional $4,400 increase in your property value each year. License renewal fees will jump nearly 70% to $9,000 for all cannabis operators in the state.South Dakota medical marijuana companies will shortly have to fork over a good bit more to the state to renew their business permits.
